In
the 4.7L motor, the oil fill tube is in the front of the motor.
In colder parts of the country, moister produced by the blow
by gases, condenses in the oil fill tube due to cold air passing
by it. Mopar has come out with a new cap and baffle. These two
items have cut down on the foam build up. Still more work
is needed to fully prevent the build up.

1 oil. and winter weather.

Still get the
nasty foaming after the baffle and new cap installed. This is
with AMSOIL oil in the motor. I removed the belt driven fan and
hope one side affect is less cold air blowing over the oil fill
tube. But at least its just on the lower half under the baffle.
Part numbers for the cap and baffle.....

Updated cap
is nothing but a plastic cover over the opening of the original
style of cap. Mopar had the right idea, but it need more then
just being capped. Opps,
sorry about the fuzzy photo.
Below:
Filled the
cap with the foam that comes in a can. Jury rigged a way to keep
the cap on while the foam hardened. Trimmed the over flow and
sealed the cap to prodect the insulating foam.
Below:
View of the
out side of the oil fill tube. Large surface area that allows
the moisture from the motor crank case to condense on and turn
into "oil foam".
Below:
Insulated the
outside of the oil fill tube with pipe insulition. Cut and pressed
in place to fit. Its all held on with cable ties. Yea I know
it's ugly as sin but this is still in the testing stages.
Below:
Same as above
just with the foam filled cap in place.
Only cold weather and time will tell if this is heading in the right direcition.
More up-dates as they happen or requested.
