New used 4.7L engine
September 2007 Notice: This page may not play well with dailup! This page will be updated as the work moves along. At this time I'm working on getting the new donor engine. The story and info about each photo will be added and updated also as time allows me too. Below: Y2KOTA sitting waiting for the new used motor. Below: With over 101,000 miles, 1st time towed. (Cell Phone Photo) Below: New used 4.7L motor waiting to be shipped to me. Been told its out of a 2001 Dakota 2WD. Below: Next group of photos... Old motor being stripped while waiting to be removed. Intake, one valve cover(other will be removed soon), water pump, alternator removed. A/C compressor and power steering pump unbolted. Upper and lower radiator hoses removed. October 2007

Due to delays with shipping of the new donor motor, this is start to drag out. In the mean time I've been shopping around for a used engine hoist and engine stand. Had several close finds, but no luck. Ended up buying them new. Pull the old 4.7 out. To confirm rumors about what happened, the oil pan was removed.

*WARNING* Some of the following photos may be upsetting to the weak of heart!!!!
Below: Hood off, the old 4.7L comes out. Below: Motor getting mounted to the engine stand. Below: One more shot, this time on the stand. Below: This is where the fun begins. With the pan pulled the damage can be seen on the windage tray Below: This is what was found after the windage tray was removed. The connecting rod is shattered in the middle. Looking just below that is the other half attached to the piston. Below: Bits of the carringe found in the oil pan. Below: Close-up of the connecting rod on the piston. On to page 2
